Our community-based training provides accessible and impactful learning that meets the unique needs of a diverse range of individuals.  We have drawn on our 65 years of experience working with people in the field of mental health, addictions, intellectual disabilities and autism to provide workshops on a broad range of subjects.  Our vast wealth of experience puts mental health and wellbeing firmly at the core of our training.

Our training sessions and workshops are interactive with activities, discussion and games to encourage participants to engage and reflect on the delivery topics.

Heres the details:

  • Our courses are available for non-for-profit community and voluntary sector organisations.
  • We can run sessions for staff or the people your organisation supports.
  • Training sessions can range from 1 hour to 1 day, speak to us about your requirements and we are happy to modify based on need.
  • Our sessions can be delivered In-person or online, and we aim to be flexible with the timings available
  • To ensure our training reaches as many people as possible, we operate a flexible pricing model that adapts to your organisational circumstances.
  • When we successfully secure grant funding or donations for a specific training program, we are delighted to offer it to community members completely free of charge, so always keep your eyes peeled on those opportunities.

In this training workshop, we will:

  • Identify signs and symptoms of stress and mental health issues
  • Increase awareness of common mental illnesses
  • Recognize challenges such as stigma and its impact on mental health
  • Discuss the CHIME Framework in supporting recovery

Mental Health in Later Life

Some people think that​ mental health problems are​ simply part of getting older.​ This is not true and does not​ have to be the case. Older people can embrace wellbeing, prevent mental ill health, and get the most out of life.

In this training workshop participants will:

  • Develop understanding of key mental health challenges
  • Recognise early warning signs
  • Explore strategies for promoting mental health and wellbeing
  • Gain insight into approaches that enhance overall quality of life
  • Identify and access appropriate mental health resources and support services for older people.

Menopause and perimenopause can bring about significant physical and cognitive changes, yet many women undergoing this stage of life are unaware of its mental health implications. Symptoms like anxiety, depression, and other psychological challenges are common but often misunderstood, leading to incorrect interventions.

In this workshop we will:

  • Identify common life transitions
  • Discuss the variety of menopausal symptoms and their potential impact on mental wellbeing.

Sleep plays a fundamental role in supporting both physical and mental health. There are many reasons why we struggle to sleep which can impact on our mood, physical and cognitive function, appetite, and emotional resilience.  Join us to explore ways to establish consistent and restful sleep.

  • Explore our own attitudes towards sleep
  • Increase understanding of sleep hygiene

In this workshop we will:

  • Identify the ‘ABCs’ of self-care
  • Explore the seven key areas of self-care
  • Discuss personal mindset, common barriers and ways to overcome them
  • Discover practical self-care strategies to build resilience

Food and Mood

Explore the powerful connection between what you eat and how you feel. This workshop raises awareness of certain foods and explores the impact on our mood with an insight into the gut – brain connection. Learn how a shift in our eating habits can help you develop strategies to sharpen focus, boost energy, and promote emotional wellbeing.

  • Discuss societal impact on how we view food and mood
  • Explore how mood can impact food choices
  • Consider the key foods that increase mental wellbeing
  • Increase awareness of the gut brain axis
  • Explore the role of probiotics and prebiotics
  • Consider some key mental health conditions

Finding the Balance

Life isn’t always a smooth journey, we often encounter bumps, take unexpected detours, or face delays.  Explore straightforward and effective techniques to reduce stress, alongside self-care strategies designed to nurture your emotional resilience to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

  • Discuss how comparing ourselves to others (compare & despair theory) and masking our emotions impacts on our wellbeing
  • Delve into the many roles we take on in life and how they can impact our wellbeing

Alcohol and Other Drugs Awareness

Alcohol & Other Drugs (and how to support others)

This workshop delves into the different motivations that drive drug and alcohol use. It aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to reduce stigma, enabling them to support informed choices, advocate for healthier alternatives, and create a compassionate environment that promotes recovery and wellbeing.

In this workshop we will:

  • Enhance our understanding and awareness of alcohol and other drugs, including prescription medications
  • Recognise possible signs of substance use
  • Address the potential harm caused by alcohol and substance abuse on both physical and mental health
  • Gain awareness of available support systems to minimise harm
  • Explore effective methods to support others and referral pathways

*Gambling addiction and Vaping can also be added to this session (depending on session length).

Dual Diagnosis

This workshop will explore the complex needs of people with mental health issues and problematic substance misuse. The workshop will raise awareness of the importance of integrated support approaches that address both mental health and substance use simultaneously.

Specialist Training

Introduction to Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is a term that describes the diverse ways in which people’s brain’s function. Neurodivergence refers to individuals whose cognitive processes differ from what is considered normal or typical. By appreciating these differences, neurodivergence advocates for more inclusive environments that accommodate and support a range of unique strengths and challenges. This helps to promote acceptance and understanding within society.

In this workshop we will:

  • Enhance awareness of neurodiversity
  • Foster a deeper understanding of neurodivergence
  • Delve into the medical and social models in relation to neurodivergence
  • Expand knowledge of neurodivergent conditions
  • Develop awareness of some of the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals
  • Explore potential workplace adjustments to support the integration of neurodivergent individuals

Understanding Hoarding Behaviours

Designed for mental health professionals, social workers, and care givers, this course delves into the psychology of hoarding. It includes evidence-based intervention strategies and practical tools for supporting individuals in decluttering their lives whilst safeguarding their mental health and wellbeing.

In this workshop we will:

  • Identify the criteria for hoarding disorder

  • Describe the typical profile of someone who hoards

    Introduction to Compassion/Empathy Fatigue

    Are you feeling emotionally drained from constantly supporting others? Empathy fatigue, also known as compassion fatigue, can impact anyone in caregiving roles. Join our interactive training session to explore what empathy fatigue is, how it affects your wellbeing, and practical strategies to manage and prevent it.

    In this workshop we will:

    • Identify key signs of compassion/empathy fatigue
    • Differentiate between compassion/empathy fatigue and burnout
    • Identify the 4 stages of compassion/empathy fatigue
    • Examine personal signs of compassion/empathy fatigue
