Think before you flush!
What NOT to flush down the toilet….
- Paper Towels
- Tissues
- Wet Wipes
- Cleansing / Makeup Pads
- Nappies
- Sanitary Items
- Plasters
- Cotton Buds
- Razors
- Syringes
- Medicines
What can you do with these waste items instead?
- Many of these items should be put into your Black bin as they are not recyclable.
- Used kitchen roll, napkins, and tissue paper (not blue-roll) can be put into your brown bin.
- Unused prescription medicines can be returned to your GP or Pharmacy.
- Needles and syringes must be disposed of in a yellow, puncture-resistant sharps container to prevent injuries and infections. Never place them in household rubbish or recycling. Containers can be requested via GPs, pharmacists, or online, and should be safely returned when 3/4 full.
- Re-usable items to consider:
- sanitary items like washable pads, moon cups or period pants.
- Washable make-up pads instead of cleansing pads or make-up wipes.
