The PTSD Experimental Treatment Trial (FIRST PETT) involves undertaking a novel, effective PTSD treatment called Fast Imagery Reversal Script for Trauma-release (FIRST).

FIRST is a possible new treatment for PTSD. It uses a process where the person is asked to visualise in a way that is intended to be comfortable, non-traumatising, and non-intrusive. We are aiming to recruit 215 UK military veterans to participate, who will be randomly allocated to receive either a) the FIRST treatment immediately, or b) to be placed on a waiting list to receive the FIRST treatment after twenty four weeks. We want to find out if FIRST therapy is effective in reducing PTSD symptoms, how it works and whether it can be recommended as a standard NHS treatment option in the future.
