Fast Fashion

Behind the Bargain…The 7 Rs Before You Buy!

60% of ALL CLOTHING MADE IS LANDFILLED OR INCINERATED IN 1 YEAR.

Fast Fashion causes 20% of global water waste.  The industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world with 90 millions tons of waste annually.

Washing synthetic fabric puts millions of particles into the ocean.

80% of garment workers are women. 2% of garment workers earn a living wage.

1 Rethink

What sort of a fashion buyer are you? Do you impulse buy a bargain? Are you afraid to be seen in the same clothes?

2 Refuse

Say “No” to unethical fast fashion brands like SHEIN. Don’t accept promotional items you don’t need.

3 Reduce

Reduce your time shopping. Set ‘no buying’ days. Reduce the amount of times you wash clothing to avoid microplastics going into the water.

4 Reuse

Normalise repeat outfit wearing. Fashion tends to be cyclical, so put clothes away and re-wear them in the future – they may be considered vintage! Clothes can be altered or badges / patches / jewellery added.

5 Repair

A simple repair job can give new life to well-loved clothing. Take shoes to a cobbler. New laces can spruce up older shoes. Visit a Repair Cafe to get advice, ideas and learn new skills.

6 Recycle

Use charity shops, take old items to rag bins. Swap clothing with others. Take buttons off old clothing and re-use them.

7 Rot

Aim to buy natural fibers that break down more easily. Use clothing recycling bins rather than black bin for disposal.
