The Empty Chair Campaign

Every year suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one life lost every 40 seconds.

In 2018 we are launching 'The Empty Chair' campaign across the North and South of Ireland.

Started by one of our Project Workers in Derry/Londonderry, Feargal wanted a visual statement to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. An Empty Chair that a friend or loved one sat in is often a poignant reminder when someone passes away and with this simple yet effective symbol we hope to encourage people to start a conversation around mental health breaking down the stigma which stops people asking for help.
The Empty Chairs placed outside homes, workplaces, in the centre of our towns and cities, are in memory of those who have lost their lives to suicide and a reminder to those who have lost loved ones, that we stand with them.

We are asking YOU to join US in working together-

-set a chair outside your place of work

-or your home for awareness

-ask a friend or colleague 'How are you?'

-check in with your friends or family

Now in it's third year we have had Empty Chairs displayed locally nationally and even internationally, from Derry & Donegal to Newcastle & New York. If you are interested in getting involved with our Empty Chair Campaign, taking place on Monday 10th September, email our team here to get your campaign pack.
