‘Meeting a community’s needs, in the community’ is how Director of Addiction NI, Alex Bunting, describes the organisation’s work.
Thursday 14th June saw the opening of Addiction NI's new counselling services on the Glen Road.
Speaking prior to the official opening of Addiction NI’s new offices and counselling suite on the Glen Road in Belfast, he noted that ‘it is this visionary philosophy of providing accessible, inclusive and high quality services within a person’s own community that defines our services. The opening of these new offices at the same time that we mark our 40th anniversary, shows just how powerful and relevant that message remains today.’
Paul Maskey MP for West Belfast, in advance of the opening and the 40th anniversary celebrations, remarked:
‘Addiction, both in terms of alcohol and drugs, has had a tragic impact on many families in this area and indirectly, has affected our entire community. For that reason, we must commend Addiction NI for its exceptional leadership across four decades. It’s really impressive to note that a project that began just down the road from this new office is now delivering services right across Ireland. ’
Mr Maskey observed that: ‘In providing embedded services within a community setting Addiction NI was a trail –blazer. Indeed, given that health experts now agree that the most effective addiction and mental health services are first-class, well-resourced facilities within the community - services like Addiction NI’s must continue to be fully backed by the relevant agencies.’
