This year we hosted 2 summer BBQs for Inspire Staff, Volunteers and their friends and family.
On the 11th August over 200 guests (as well as a few dogs!) gathered at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum Cultra for the first of these. The event featured live music from the Hootin’ Annies, a magic show from magician Trevor Price as well as face painting and a selection of traditional games. Guests also enjoyed their lunch from the BBQ, an ice cream of their choice and were given a token to collect a bag of sweets from the traditional corner shop.
Guests were offered the chance to compete in ‘People Bingo’. Each team was given a grid consisting of facts or statements and through speaking with their colleagues had to fill as many boxes as possible with names of people for which the statement was true (e.g. someone who has been to Australia, Never had a tooth filling etc.). Completed forms were entered into a prize draw.
Guests were also invited to compete in a treasure hunt which took each team around the park to hunt for clues. Although the hunt was challenging (with a few disputes over what direction North East was!) a total of 12 teams successfully completed the hunt and were entered into the draw for prizes.
A selection of prizes were available for those who took part in the 2 competitions including an Amazon Echo, £75 Hastings Hotel vouchers, £50 M&S voucher and boxes of chocolates.
A fantastic day was had by all and thankfully the weather held up!
Saturday the 18th August saw the second of our summer BBQs at the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh. Again over 200 guests joined us on the day. Unfortunately the sun didn’t shine quite as much as it did in Cultra, but it did stay dry. There was plenty to see and do in the park as well as taking part in the, now famous, people bingo and (somewhat easier) treasure hunt, both with the same prizes on offer. Mysteriously we struggled to find anyone who was born in March! The day had largely the same shape as it did in Cultra, we were again joined by a Face Painter, The Hootin’ Annies, magician Trevor Price and guests enjoyed their lunch from the Yellow Door BBQ as well as an ice cream of their choice and the children were given a token to collect a bag of sweets from O’Doherty’s shop. The prize draw was a fitting conclusion to the event with many happy prize winners.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on the days, we truly hope you had a fantastic time. A special thanks too to everyone who supported the events, it is very much appreciated.
