The 6-8 week MBSR programme was developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre. Thirty years on, the person-centred, psychoeducational pragmatic and practice-based stress reduction programme has a well-established evidence base across a diverse range of medical as well as non-medical settings and including the workplace.
The programme has been specially designed to adapt to the specific needs of a particular or specialist occupational workforce or group to reduce workplace stress, boost performance, and reduce presenteeism and sickness absence.
In encouraging individuals to become active participants in discovering and building on existing resources, the programme cultivates compassionate self-awareness to notice and manage stress, promote resilience, boost performance and responsible self-care.
