Castlecroft Testimonials – Male, 61
I first heard of Castlecroft approximately 3 years ago when I was referred by my GP. I had feelings of being nervous as this was something new, I had never been part of a group before.
On my first day I met the manager she introduced me to staff and other members; I knew some people but still felt nervous.
I have been attending the men’s group for some time now and I have taken part in Men’s sheds, fishing, Arts & Crafts, Drama, relaxation and upcycling of furniture.
I recently spent a long period of time in hospital due to a decline in my mental health, on my return to Castlecroft I felt anxious and nervous at returning but staff supported me to take part in 30 minutes of relaxation at the start of the day which I now actively do on my own.
This allows me to relax and settle so that I can take part in planned activities for the day without this 30 minutes relaxation at the start of the day when I arrive at Castlecroft I would not be able to take part in centre activities.
On the days that I do not attend the centre I struggle but knowing that I can attend on the other days helps to improve my mood.
