This week Inspire launched, ‘Recovery Together’ - a programme delivered by Inspire in conjunction with the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to provide ongoing support, resources and information to help tackle serious stress in veterans, families and their carers.
Drawing from over 10 years’ experience in providing psychological therapies and wellbeing support to specialist occupational groups, Inspire worked closely with veterans and their families to design a programme that delivers the most appropriate form of care where and when it is needed.
Commenting at the launch Dr David Cameron, Lead Clinician with Inspire said “With this programme the focus is very much on helping families to understand how their loved ones have been impacted by their service, how they are feeling and why they are acting in ways that seem upsetting or worrying. We want to create the space where families can talk openly about their experiences and give them the tools to help them cope and work together to maintain and build a healthy and loving family life.”
Individuals and family members are supported closely throughout, and together with the programme team, create a tailored support plan that addresses their specific mental health and wellbeing needs. The wide range of support options and interventions include: advocacy, addiction support services and mindfulness, through to more novel, holistic approaches such as horticultural and equine therapy.
Speaking on behalf of the NI Veterans’ Support Office, Liz Brown, Covenant Programme Manager said “I am really delighted to see this much needed service, supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust is now available to veterans and their families in Northern Ireland. Veterans and family members played a crucial role in the design of Recovery Together and we are certain there will be a high demand for this important service.”
