We provide a meaningful creative journey for adults with Autism and/or Intellectual disability using a person-centred approach.

New Directions, Cavan aim to:-

  • Provide a meaningful creative journey for adults with Autism and/ or Intellectual disability using a person-centred approach through working in partnership with the individual, the HSE, and family representatives.

  • Enable and empower individuals to maximise their potential to maintain independence.

  • Enable service users to determine their goals, leading to the achievement of their desired outcomes.

  • Enable service users to be active citizens within their local community.

  • Employ professional staff who are suitably trained in care and support.

  • Adherence and going beyond the ‘New Directions Guidance Document, and grounding in the twelve personal supports outlined in this document.

  • Enable service users to fully integrate into the local community

  • Encourage the growth and progression of a service user as a person and support them to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

  • Open the door to the types of educational, social and fun activities service users wish to experience and facilitate opportunities for self-expression.



New Directions, Cavan will achieve the above aims by:-

  • Offering support and care to vulnerable adults in the form of practical, social and emotional support which will facilitate the service user’s functioning and their inclusion as citizens in the community.

  • Drawing up an individualised Support/ Care Plan which will enable a service user to develop his/her optimum level of independence and desired outcomes based on a comprehensive assessment of need.

  • Consulting with the service user, relevant other professionals and New Directions, Cavan staff in formulating an individualised Support/ Care Plan that has meaningful goals and outcomes

  • Reviewing the Support/ Care Plan on a regular basis through a formal process with regular liaison between service users, New Directions, Cavan staff and statutory key workers as appropriate to review goals and outcomes.
