Throughout Inspire, we have many opportunities for you to utilise your talents, skills or experience, adding value to the delivery of our services and helping us raise public awareness. Here are some of the roles we have to offer you.
All available across Mental Health & Disability services unless stated.
Advocacy (mental health only) – Volunteer advocates help in the following Health & Social Care Trusts – Belfast, Northern and Southern. They:
- Provide independent advocacy to those who access the Inspire advocacy service in hospital or community settings;
- Motivate and encourage service users to represent themselves.
Activities – We want fun and energetic people to work alongside staff in facilitating, delivering and participating in group activities with service users. These volunteers will also:
- Plan events and day trips;
- Offer listening ears and engage in social interaction with service users.
If you are friendly, creative and supportive, with great communication skills and previous experience of facilitating activities, we would love to hear from you.
Gardening – Volunteers with a love of gardening work alongside service users, helping them to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables. They also assist with general gardening tasks e.g. maintaining beds and borders. A number of services would welcome help on allotments and in large polytunnels, too.
Befriender – One-to-one befriending, where volunteers are matched with residents/service users, offering individual support on a regular basis. This could be a simple as a having chat over a cup of tea, helping with shopping, visiting the library, going for a walk or engaging in other social activities.
Support – Volunteers support staff and engage with service users, encouraging them to take on new challenges and allowing them to reach their full potential. Volunteers will motivate and encourage service users to participate in scheme activities.
Events – To assist with centrally organised fundraising activities and initiatives that showcase the work of Inspire
Administration – Provide administrative support in busy office environments.
Driver – Provide transport for service users, to and from Inspire services.
Facilitator – Facilitate and deliver group sessions in a range of activities, such as arts & crafts. Volunteers also plan events and outings, and support staff and other volunteers in the delivery of care and support to service users.
Holistic Therapist – Provide a range of holistic therapies to service users for relaxation purposes and promote wellbeing. Volunteers require recognised qualifications and certificates in relation to therapies being offered.
This is not a definitive list and roles can be adapted to suit the skills and experience you bring to Inspire. Please contact the volunteer coordinator for further information: 07921 697 135 or firstname.lastname@example.org
