"My name is John Quigg. I am employed as a Team Leader in The Heathers Supported Living Service in Armagh.
My career began in the Painting and Decorating industry. In later years, I further welcomed the opportunity to provide respite for foster children. This was an extremely positive and rewarding experience which evidently led to my change of career. I entered into the Caring field as a Care Assistant in a Nursing Home. This role furthered my knowledge on the provision of Care and benefitted me greatly. Four years ago I was successful for the position of Support Worker in The Heathers. I value the organisations ethos of promoting independence by supporting Service Users to live independently within their own home and inclusion in their local community. I really enjoyed this role and developed my learning by completing QCF Level 3. Wanting to develop my career I was successful in the position of Relief Team Leader in The Heathers. I was able to balance both my role as Support Worker and Relief Team Leader and learned new skills in managing staff. As I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of Relief Team Leader and its challenges, I decided to apply for a Permanent position. I was overjoyed to have been offered the post and have now been in this role for ten months. I am currently completing the Nurturing Talent Programme within the organisation and I hope to complete QCF Level 5 in the near future."
